Geraldton-based organisation Health Communication Resources Inc. was honoured for its commitment to gender equality and the prevention of family violence, having been shortlisted for the Gender Equality Award at the 2024 United Nations Association of Australia (WA Division) UN Day Awards.

The nomination recognised the organisation’s leadership within the Community, Respect & Equality (CRE) Alliance—a collective of local businesses, services, and community groups working together to build a safer, more respectful Geraldton by addressing the root causes of family violence.
Held annually, the UN Day Awards mark the founding of the United Nations, which in 2024 celebrated its 79th year. The awards pay tribute to individuals and organisations making significant contributions to the UN’s mission of peace, equality, and human rights.

“We were truly honoured to be shortlisted for a gender equality award,” said Dane Waters from Health Communication Resources Inc. “The recognition reinforced the importance of working together as a community to create lasting change. While there’s still a long way to go, we remain committed to a future where everyone has the opportunity to flourish.”

Mr Waters also emphasised the collective nature of the achievement: “Social change only happens through strong community partnerships, so this recognition is really a reflection of the incredible work being done by organisations across the CRE Alliance. It would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of all the community advocates for CRE in Geraldton. This award belongs to everyone under that CRE banner.”
