Geraldton, WA – A collective of local organisations in Geraldton has united to drive meaningful change around gender equality, launching a successful social media campaign in the lead-up to International Women’s Day (IWD).
The campaign was coordinated by the Community, Respect and Equality (CRE) alliance, which has worked since 1997 to build a community free from violence against women. The communications arm of the alliance, known as Leading Lights, developed a focused social media strategy centred on Action 2 of the Change the Story framework: promoting women’s independence and decision-making.
Spanning February and early March, seven active CRE member organisations contributed to a vibrant online campaign, sharing event information, messages on the significance of IWD, and interviews with local women. Over the short campaign period, 34 Facebook posts reached more than 33,000 people, achieved over 20,000 views, and generated 1,313 engagements—resulting in a standout engagement rate of 6.5%, well above industry averages.
The campaign not only amplified key messages about women’s roles in public life and relationships but also demonstrated the power of collaboration in promoting cultural change.
