16 Days in WA – Jambinu Strong Matriarchs

November 25 - December 10

Discover powerful stories and portraits of local matriarchs, shared to mark 16 Days in WA 2025. This project was developed to showcase and celebrate some of Geraldton’s local matriarchs, sharing their moving stories. Learn more about women whose strength, wisdom, and leadership have helped shape families and communities across our region.

The initiative also marked the 10th Anniversary of the Ochre Ribbon Week Campaign, first established by Aboriginal Family Legal Services in 2015 to raise awareness of the impacts of family and domestic violence on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The campaign continues to call for safety, healing and respect within families and communities.

Together, these stories honour the important role of women in building connection, culture and strength across generations.
