Dane Waters- Health Communication Resources

We were incredibly proud to be named a finalist in the 2025 Injury Matters Injury Prevention and Safety Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Influencing Injury Policy or Research. The nomination recognised our work in monitoring and evaluating social change for the primary prevention of violence against women through the Community, Respect and Equality (CRE) project.

What made this recognition especially meaningful was the company we were in—we were one of just three finalists in the category, and the only non-university organisation. As a small health promotion charity, to be nominated alongside two major university institutions was both humbling and affirming. It demonstrated that community-based research, when grounded in integrity, collaboration, and a deep understanding of local context, can meet high academic standards.

We have always believed in the power of community-led research to drive meaningful social change. Our work has been rooted in partnership, and this nomination reflects those partnerships, primarily here, the organisations involved in the CRE project, led by Desert Blue Connect. It reflected the strength of what can be achieved together.

Through CRE, we worked to challenge the social norms and structures that contribute to violence against women, using research to inform prevention and policy in real, practical ways.

We were honoured that our grassroots approach to injury prevention was recognised at this level. It highlights how important it is to be committed, collaborative, and community-focused for sustainable social change.
